Mercedes-Benz Canada focuses on pre-owned sales

August 2011 was a record month for Mercedes-Benz Canada. Pre-owned car sales hit an all-time high that month with 1,313 units sold, making it "by far their best August ever” for pre-owned sales, according to Mercedes-Benz Canda.

The automaker explains that in order to put a stronger emphasis on its pre-owned business, they needed to ramp up everything from wholesale management to facility space, to training and it has resulted in significant growth in pre-owned sales over the past two years.

Ontario man hits 1 million kilometres in Mercedes-Benz

There are few cars that have the legendary durability of the Mercedes-Benz W124 (1984-1995 E-Class). Especially the diesel variants.

Just last week Marcus Breitschwerdt, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada, presented an award to Bob Miles for surpassing the 1 million kilometre mark. What model does Mr. Miles (that's an appropriate name!) drive? A 1990 Mercedes-Benz 300D, of course.

How did Mr. Miles accumulate so many....kilometres?

BMW and Mercedes-Benz duke it out for sales supremacy in Canada

One of the fieriest battles of 2010 was undoubtedly between BMW Group Canada and Mercedes-Benz Canada. While BMW has long overshadowed Mercedes-Benz on Canadian sales charts MB enjoyed strong momentum in 2010, frequently outselling BMW month-to-month.

The two companies fought it out a full 12 rounds and the results are in. By just a kidney grille BMW Group Canada out-muscled Mercedes-Benz Canada to take the top spot (31,703 for BMW vs. 31,651 for MB).

But wait, that's comparing combined BMW/MINI sales against Mercedes-Benz/Sprinter/smart sales. How do things look strictly comparing BMW to Mercedes-Benz?

Live in Toronto? Interested in driving an electric smart car?

Yesterday, Toronto Hydro and Merecedes-Benz Canada launched Canada's first electric vehicle pilot project aimed at everyday retail customers.

The project, which is called the Toronto Hydro smart Experience, will put 15 electric smart fortwo's in the hands of everyday people. The program is limited to consumers in Toronto, presumable because Mercedes-Benz's Canadian operations are based in Toronto. But this is no free lunch as people chosen will have to pay $545/mo for 48 months (unlimited km). At least Mercedes-Benz throws in winter tires and a charging station for your home.

More information after the jump about how to apply and specs on the smart fortwo electric drive.

German luxury auto brands battle for supremacy in Canada

While most people are paying attention to the sales battle between Ford and General Motors in Canada, another heated battle has been brewing in the luxury car ranks.

After 8 years of sales domination, BMW Group Canada is almost 2,000 units behind their crosstown rival, Mercedes-Benz. And while the boys from Munich (or Richmond Hill, On - BMW's Canadian home) are looking at MB, Audi Canada is lurking in the rearview mirror; maybe not a sales threat today but they're gaining ground. Quickly.
