AJAC Car of the Year category winners announced

Moments ago journalists belonging to the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada announced the category winners for their annual Car of the Year awards.

The overall Car of the Year will be selected from the category winners. So, which vehicles won their respective segments? Find out after the jump.

2012 AJAC Car of The Year nominations are in

This year the Chevrolet Cruze won the 2011 AJAC Car Of The Year but its reign will soon be over, as another vehicle will take its crown. Later this month AJAC members will gather at Niagara District Airport in Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON to test drive the latest vehicles on sale or soon-to-be on sale in Canada for the 2012 model year.

Chevrolet Cruze wins Canadian COTY; Ford Edge takes truck honours

The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) have awarded the Chevrolet Cruze as the 2011 Canadian Car of the Year at the Canadian International Auto Show.

"We are very proud to receive AJAC's 2011 Canadian Car of the Year honours for the all-new Chevrolet Cruze, which reflects a major refocusing of investment on smaller vehicles and fuel efficient technologies," said Kevin Williams, GM of Canada's president and managing director. "The Cruze represents our line in the sand: We're playing to win - and delivering the goods - in the small car business."

On the other side of town Ford fans were pleased to hear that the significantly revised 2011 Ford Edge was named 2011 Canadian Utility Vehicle.

"We are pleased to receive the 2011 Canadian Utility of the Year award from AJAC," said David Mondragon, president and CEO, Ford of Canada. "The Canadian-built 2011 Ford Edge features industry-leading technologies that create a whole new in-vehicle experience."

Subaru Outback wins AJAC Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year

Subaru has another feather to add to their cap this morning as the 2010 Outback has been named the Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year by AJAC.

The Outback beat out the Lexus RX450h and Volkswagen Touareg TDI to win the honour.

Canadian Car of the Year finalists announced

The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada has announced the finalists for the 2010 COTY awards.

After winning the North American Car of the Year and North American Truck of the Year awards for the 2010 Fusion and 2010 TransitConnect, Ford was unable to secure a top three spot in the Canadian awards, although Ford is a finalist in "Best New Technology," "Best New Design" and "Best New Green Technology."

Top three announced for 2009 Canadian Car or Utility Vehicle of the Year

The international accounting firm KPMG has announced the top three finalists for overall 2009 Canadian Car of the Year and the Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year honours.

The winners will be declared on Wednesday, February 11 2009 during media day at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto. The winners of the Best New Design award and the Best New Technology award, presented by Shell Canada, will also be declared at that time.

A closer look at the AJAC Sports/Performance (under $50k) category

Just today, The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada released the specific tally results for each vehicle tested in its 14 categories for 2009. It’s an interesting look at how the vehicles made it to the top spot in their category and how they measure up to each other.

One of the most contested categories was the Sports/Performance (under $50k) category where the Acura TSX, BMW 135i Coupe, Dodge Challenger, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Subaru WRX STI fought it out for top spot.

The winner of the category was BMW’s 135i with 689 points, Subaru’s WRX STI came in a close second with 683 points and Mitsubishi’s Lancer Evolution came in third with 665 points.
