ALG announces Canadian Residual Value Awards

Generally speaking you want a car that has a high residual value. Why you ask? Well, if you lease your vehicle it means that your lease payments will be lower since the car is worth more at the end of the lease term. If you purchase your vehicle it means it’ll be worth more when it comes time to sell it. According to Geoff Helby of ALG, "Residual value is a complete indicator of value, taking into account quality, durability and brand desirability."

In the 4th annual Canadian Residual Value Awards, Subaru and Infiniti walked away with top honours for mainstream and luxury brands, respectively. Which individual models came away as winners in their respective categories? Find out after the jump.

ALG releases inaugural Perceived Quality Survey in Canada

Perceived quality is a powerful force when Canadians search for a new vehicle. Purchase decisions are often based on an emotional connection buyers have established with a particular brand regardless of actual quality. Negative news or beliefs also have a major impact on perceived quality. For the first time ALG has conducted its first perceived quality survey in Canada.

Chrysler and Mitsubishi among most improved residual values in 2011

With improved residual values over the past year, Mitsubishi (4.6 percent increase in residual value vs. 2010) and Chrysler (up 4.3 percent) are forecasted to experience the largest gains in leasing in the coming years.

Porsche (up 5.5 percent) and Volvo (up 4.0 percent) are expected to see the biggest gains in leasing in 2011 in the Canadian luxury segment.

Subaru named best mainstream brand from ALG; Infiniti named best luxury brand

Subaru has been named 'Best Mainstream Brand' for the second year in a row in the ALG Canada annual Residual Value Awards. Infiniti won Best Luxury Brand award for the third year in a row.

ALG's Residual Value Awards honor the vehicles in each segment that are predicted to retain the highest percentage of their original price.

What does this mean for you? Well it means these models have higher residual values, which in turn results in a lower lease payment.

ALG announces Canadian residual awards

ALG, the organization responsible for the "Automotive Lease Guide" has announced their first ever Canadian Residual Value Awards.

Previous lists have been U.S. only but due to the differences in the Canadian auto industry they are now issuing awards specifically Canada.

The awards honour the vehicles and brands with the best projected value after the end of a conventional retail lease. High residuals usually mean the vehicles are more reliable, durable, and desirable down the road.
