Chevrolet Cruze wins Canadian COTY; Ford Edge takes truck honours

The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) have awarded the Chevrolet Cruze as the 2011 Canadian Car of the Year at the Canadian International Auto Show.

"We are very proud to receive AJAC's 2011 Canadian Car of the Year honours for the all-new Chevrolet Cruze, which reflects a major refocusing of investment on smaller vehicles and fuel efficient technologies," said Kevin Williams, GM of Canada's president and managing director. "The Cruze represents our line in the sand: We're playing to win - and delivering the goods - in the small car business."

On the other side of town Ford fans were pleased to hear that the significantly revised 2011 Ford Edge was named 2011 Canadian Utility Vehicle.

"We are pleased to receive the 2011 Canadian Utility of the Year award from AJAC," said David Mondragon, president and CEO, Ford of Canada. "The Canadian-built 2011 Ford Edge features industry-leading technologies that create a whole new in-vehicle experience."

AJAC TestFest gets under way this week

Looking to buy a new car or SUV in the coming months? The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada is doing the grunt work for you by testing more than 40 new vehicles through 21 separate evaluation parameters.

Dozens of auto journalists from across Canada will descend on Niagara-on-the-Lake today through Friday to put the eligible vehicles through their paces.

To be eligible, a vehicle needs to be all-new or substantially redesigned. Unfortunately AJAC TestFest does not take into account vehicles that are modestly updated over the course of several years.

Take a look at the eligible contenders after the jump.
