BMW and Mini showcase new 3 Series and Roadster in Detroit

For years the BMW 3-Series has been the benchmark for luxury sports sedans. Praised by motoring journalists for being one of the purist driver’s cars available, BMW has a lot riding on this latest generation. The new 3er was unveiled late last fall but Detroit is where it made it's first official debut on North American soil. Highlights include a larger and lighter body and a new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, which replaces BMW's iconic inline 6 on entry-level models.

Mini also unveiled its long awaited Mini Roadster, which is based on the Mini Coupe.

Hyundai turbocharges Detroit with the new Veloster Turbo, and more power for the Genesis Coupe

We’ve been impressed by the Veloster since its launch in the fall. It has the same mischievous, fun loving attitude as the Mazda2, but was always missing something when you put the throttle down. You write the caption; Dr. Z visits the Chrysler booth in Detroit

Last night at the North American International Auto Show I snapped this photo of the one and only Dieter Zetsche, former head of Chrysler Corp. and current Chairman of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.

The photo was taken around 5:00pm when the Chrysler stand was almost empty. I went back to get some more shots of the Dart minus the crowds. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw good old Dr. Z coming onto the stand.

What do you think he was thinking?

More shots after the jump.
