Chevrolet Cruze wins Canadian COTY; Ford Edge takes truck honours

The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) have awarded the Chevrolet Cruze as the 2011 Canadian Car of the Year at the Canadian International Auto Show.

"We are very proud to receive AJAC's 2011 Canadian Car of the Year honours for the all-new Chevrolet Cruze, which reflects a major refocusing of investment on smaller vehicles and fuel efficient technologies," said Kevin Williams, GM of Canada's president and managing director. "The Cruze represents our line in the sand: We're playing to win - and delivering the goods - in the small car business."

On the other side of town Ford fans were pleased to hear that the significantly revised 2011 Ford Edge was named 2011 Canadian Utility Vehicle.

"We are pleased to receive the 2011 Canadian Utility of the Year award from AJAC," said David Mondragon, president and CEO, Ford of Canada. "The Canadian-built 2011 Ford Edge features industry-leading technologies that create a whole new in-vehicle experience."

More after the jump.

To qualify for AJAC Car/Utility Vehicle of the Year the model must first win the class in which it was entered. The Cruze won the "Small Car Over 21K" category, beating out the Honda CR-Z
Kia Forte 5, Nissan Juke and Scion tC. After it beat out other category winners for the COTY title.

Meanwhile the Ford Edge won it's segment (SUV - CUV $35k-$50k), beating out the Grand Cherokee Honda Accord Crosstour, Hyundai Santa Fe, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Kia Sorento, Toyota 4Runner ad Toyota Highlander Hybrid. It eventually beat out the Hyundai Tucson, Volkswagen Touareg for the overall Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year.

So the question is, do you agree?
