How does the Canadian International Auto Show stack up?

By far the most popular auto show in Canada is the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto and it opens to the public on Friday. In terms of attendance it dwarfs Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, get the picture. The Montreal Auto Show is the only show that comes close, but it's still 100,000 people shy of Toronto's big show.

So how does the Canadian International Auto Show measure up to other auto shows in North America?

Traditionally the CIAS attracts about 300,000 visitors annually. By comparison the North American International Auto Show in Detroit attracted 735,370 visitors last month, up from 714,000 in 2010.

The 2010 South Florida International Auto Show in Miami Beach, which is not necessarily the most well known auto show, traditionally attracts 600,000+ over its 10 day run.

The most popular auto show is the New York International Auto, with more than 1 million people in attendance. That's impressive when you consider that it's in a city that's not particularly conducive to car ownership.

Okay, so while the Canadian International Auto Show isn't the #1 auto show in terms of attendance it is designated as a true international auto show by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers.

Take that....Greater Kansas City International Auto Show.
